I love this time of year. As the year comes to an end, a certain buzz seems to fill the air. The smell of Christmas trees are on the horizon, mince pies hit the shelves and Christmas carols are just around the corner.

It’s also time to decorate the house. Getting into the festive spirit and decorating your home doesn’t have to cost a fortune and it doesn’t need to be defined by the red and green glitz. When it comes to decorating, the key is knowing where to look and thinking outside the box.  I recently popped into TK Maxx and left with a trolley full of affordable Christmas goodies and not a hint of red and green in sight. With so many brands under one roof, I was able to tick off some Christmas shopping for the whole family and pick up some divine decorations for our home, without spending a fortune.

Gone are the days of being confined by the red and green glitz for Christmas. With so many options at our fingertips, decorating can definitely extend beyond the traditional colours. This year I’ve introduced a palette of silver, white & grey with a sprinkling of metallics. I’ve followed this theme all the way through to the Christmas wrapping with a gold foil print on brown paper finished off with some twine. It’s so simple but it looks great and it’s a nice alternative to the Santa wrapping paper flooding the shops! I love the idea of decorating the front door, but finding the perfect wreath can be tricky. I was lucky to stumble across this beautiful Christmas wreath ($29.95) in the most divine colours. My favourite find was the two tone cutlery set in white and bronze ($39.95). This works perfectly with my Christmas theme, but it’s definitely something I’ll use well beyond the festive season.

Christmas entertaining is one of my favourite things. Whether it’s Christmas drinks with friends or a family brunch before the big day, I love getting into the festive spirit. I’ve shared a few little tips on creating the perfect table setting-

Choose cutlery & dinnerware that complement your theme

Wrap napkins in twine

Add flowers or beautiful silver suede leaves in vases

Scatter Christmas decorations over the table

Use a Christmas wreath as a table centrepiece

Use gift tags and twine for place settings
